Penny - Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, and Pool Operator

Whoa! Where to begin. The glory of swimming is that anyone, of any age, any ability, with no extra equipment can benefit from engaging in the sport. I have been a lifeguard for 37 years, along with twenty-two years as a pool operator, and years as a swim instructor. I have taught people from 1 year to 80 to swim, as well as several special needs teens. Anyone can learn enough swimming to enjoy it, and help save themselves in an emergency. I have not bulked up (I wish), and I don't regularly use extra equipment. I HATE kickboarding, as most people don't kick correctly, and it just helps continue bad habits. The biggest problem is the swimmer bending the knees, a very hard concept to get over. Water exercise actually aids those with osteso and arthritis problems because the body is supported by the water and feels less heavy. Also, there is no jamming of the joints, tendons, and muscles.
